PoE System Composition And Working Process

2021-11-15

PoE System Composition

A complete PoE system includes two parts: Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and Powered Device (PD). PSE equipment is a device that supplies power to Ethernet client devices, and it is also the manager of the entire PoE ethernet power supply process. The PD device is a PSE load that accepts power, that is, the client device of the PoE system, such as IP phones, IP cameras, APs, and many other ethernet devices such as PDAs or mobile phone chargers.

What Can You Power with PoE Switch?

PoE switches are separated by their supported standards. Before choosing your PoE solutions, you need to be aware of how much power your devices draw. With that information, you’ll know which standard and business solution suits your needs.

PoE System Working Process

1)PD detection

The PSE outputs a low voltage before supplying power to the powered device to detect whether the powered device (PD) complies with the IEEE802.3af/at/bt standard.

2)Power classification

When the PD of the receiving end device is detected, the PoE device will classify the PD device and evaluate the power loss required by the PD device.

3)Start power supply

After confirming the classification, PSE will output 48V DC to the powered device and confirm that the powered device does not exceed the power requirement of 15.4W.

4)Real-time Monitoring

Provides a stable and reliable 48V DC power for PD equipment to meet the power consumption of PD equipment that does not exceed 15.4W/30W/60-90W.

5)Disconnect power

If the PD device is disconnected from the network, the PSE will quickly (usually within 300-400ms) stop powering the PD device and repeat the detection process to detect whether the cable terminal is connected to the PD device.
